Thank You, Icenium!
I feel a little remiss for not mentioning Icenium before. I’ve meant to blog about them on several occasions.
Icenium is a cloud-based development environment for building cross-platform mobile applications. They’re still in beta and, admittedly, I haven’t had as much time to experiment with their service as I would like to, but what I have seen so far, I have been impressed with.
They have a downloadable Windows IDE and a browser-based editor. There are plans for a Mac version of the desktop software, but honestly, I have to say that the browser-based solution is extremely polished and definitely quite usable. It’s impressive - one of the best online editors I have seen. They also offer in-browser device simulation for Android and iOS.
I would love to see them incorporate some sharing and collaboration features, but I’m sure that will come once the application moves out of beta.
These guys are definitely worth looking into and definitely a service I would pay for.
This morning I got an email from their brand manager, Anthony. He and I have emailed back and forth a couple of times, and he’s a super-nice, very approachable guy. He was writing to let me know that I’d won this.
Holy crap… thank you so much, guys! This is absolutely amazing. As I delve deeper into the world of mobile development, I find that I have ended up purchasing several mobile devices for testing purposes. Simulators are great, but they just can’t express the full experience of using an application on the device. This adds up to a big expense pretty quickly. Getting these four awesome mobile devices is going to be a huge help to me in the months ahead. I currently own exactly none of them.
The real kicker? I didn’t even realize I was entered into a drawing. I had signed up for a beta account because the app looked awesome.
